Data Collection

We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool running on our own server at stats.euenergyprices.eu. For visitor statistics no data is passed to third parties (no Google Analytics, no external trackers). External services are used solely for the fuel station maps, see “Map service OpenStreetMap”.

When you visit this website, the following data is processed:

  • Pages visited and time of access
  • Approximate country and city of origin (derived by Umami, no external API call)
  • Referring website, browser, operating system, device type
  • Screen size and language preference
  • When you use the station search, your IP address is used to derive your country so the right country is pre-selected. The lookup runs locally on our server against an offline database; the IP address is not stored for this. The derived country also feeds anonymously into our search statistics.

For visitor statistics (Umami) your IP address is not stored; it is used only briefly to derive an approximate location and then discarded. The visitor ID used for session counting is a regularly rotating hash (at least monthly) of IP, user agent and a server-side salt — not traceable to a specific person. For storage in server log files see the section “Server log files”.

Server log files

When you visit this website, our server automatically records access data: IP address, time, page requested, amount of data transferred, browser type and — if your browser sends it — the address of the page whose link brought you to us (referrer). The rest of your browsing history is not visible to us. This data is evaluated automatically solely to keep the site running and to fend off attacks, and is not merged with other data. Log files are deleted after 14 days at the latest. IP addresses from which attacks on our server originate may be transmitted to the security service CrowdSec (CrowdSec SAS, Paris, France) to block attacks collectively; ordinary visitors are not affected. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation). Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Gunzenhausen, Germany.

Map service OpenStreetMap

The fuel station pages embed maps from OpenStreetMap. When a map is opened, your browser loads the map tiles directly from servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (Cambridge, United Kingdom); your IP address and the displayed map area are transmitted there. If you run a place search inside the map, the search term is sent together with your IP address to the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s geocoding service Nominatim. An EU Commission adequacy decision exists for the United Kingdom. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an interactive map display). Cookies

This website uses no cookies — neither for tracking nor for any other purpose. No cookie consent banner is required. Your choice between light and dark design is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never transmitted to us.

Data Retention

Statistics data is kept indefinitely to allow long-term usage statistics. It contains no IP addresses and no persistent identifiers; individual persons cannot be identified. Server log files are deleted after 14 days at the latest.

Legal Basis

Data is processed on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing the service securely and efficiently, in audience measurement and in the map display). You may object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR).

Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For this website that means in practice: the only personal data we store are the server log files containing IP addresses. We cannot link them to any person, which is why we can neither provide information about nor specifically delete individual IP addresses (Art. 11 GDPR). All entries are deleted automatically after 14 days at the latest. We process no other data about you.
